U.S. - Over one million bicycles have been recalled by 13 manufacturers due to a quick release issue. The Legal Examiner reported that the recall was recently announced by the U.S. Consumer Product Safety Commission (CPSC) on approximately 1.3 million bikes in the U.S., 245,000 in Canada and 9,000 in Mexico.

On those affected, the quick release levers that hold the bikes’ front wheels can open 180 degrees if adjusted improperly and come into contact with the front disc brake. This issue may cause the brake to suddenly stop and the rider may be placed at risk of injury.

As noted in the report, the recall is for the same issue that was the basis of a recall initiated by Trek, a bicycle manufacturer, earlier this year.

The CPSC and 13 bicycle manufacturers are reportedly working with the Bicycle Product Suppliers Association (BPSC) in coordinating the recall.
